Joel has also written/helped make calendars and has had most of his books translated. He has also produced study guides, daily readings, and journals for most of his books. This post specifically will be my honest review of “Think Better, Live Better.”
Overall, the book has very clear points and they are indeed very good points. My biggest qualm with the book is that the book repeats itself in most chapters.
The book is 209, well the one I have, pages. If someone revised it to be as non-repetitive as possible it could easily have taken out 100+ pages from this book (making it cheaper to produce and easier/quicker to read) and have a literary flow consist with that of most other advice books.
This book, by all of its contents, would be easily definable as “a book to reprogram your mind through positive reinforcement.” The whole beginning of this book is dedicated to showing us that we are capable of “using the delete button” and reprogramming our minds simultaneously.
I enjoyed this book as it had some very deep connections with my own life and a dear friend of mine, Ryan. He is actually the one who lent me this book.
I quickly read this book in about 6-7 hours, without taking a break, while writing down specific quotes and highlighting important parts of the book to discuss later with Ryan.
Here are the 23 quotes I wrote down from the book:
(PAGE 6) Your are who God says you are … You have exactly what you need for the race that’s been designed for you … (PAGE 7) You are designed to do great things. You’re designed to leave your mark on this generation.
(PAGE 8) … too often we make the mistake of watering the wrong seeds.
(PAGE 12) [We] … have been fearfully and wonderfully made.
(PAGE 15) The real battle is taking place in your mind. If you’re defeated in your thoughts, you’ve already lost.
(PAGE 15) It’s interesting how little children start off so excited about life. They have big dreams.
(PAGE 16) Just because it seems normal to you doesn’t necessarily mean that it is normal … (PAGE 17) Sometimes we’ve just learned to function in our dysfunction.
(PAGE 19) You’re not supposed to go through life feeling inferior, held down by low self-esteem, addicted, having small goals and small dreams.
(PAGE 22) [God] … wouldn’t have put the dream in your heart or given you that promise if He didn’t have a way to bring it to pass.
(PAGE 27) People don’t determine our destiny; God does.
(PAGE 28) Words are like seeds. If you dwell on them long enough, they will take root and become what was said.
(PAGE 40) You’re not supposed to live and die with nobody even knowing you were here.
(PAGE 50) You are what you answer to.
(PAGE 50) You will overcome every obstacle, defeat every enemy, and become everything God has created you to be.
(PAGE 59) God sees your potential. God knows what you’re capable of.
(PAGE 60) You already have everything you need to fulfill your destiny.
(PAGE 71) You can meditate on the problem or you can meditate on the promises [of God].
(PAGE 75) Your life is going to follow your thoughts.
(PAGE 130) Ask [God] … for explosive blessings. Ask [God] … to propel you into your purpose … (PAGE 133) Dare to ask big … (PAGE 137) Ask in spite of what the circumstances look like.
(PAGE 157) Don’t underestimate what you [already] have.
(PAGE 168) Your perception of yourself will determine what kind of life you live … (PAGE 168) You carry yourself the way you feel about yourself.
(PAGE 188) Don’t complain about the problem … (PAGE 189) [and] don’t be afraid.
(PAGE 197) The forces that are for you are greater than the forces that are against you [always].
(PAGE 204) You don’t have to go look for a miracle; you are a miracle.
